I will not take credit for this design. I read about it in a book somewhere, and made this from memory. Th top is maple, the angled sides are spalted Oak, the vertical sides are Birch, and the trims are Padouk.

Very nice! I gotta try that sometime.
As for the box, make a regular box, including the lid. tape the lid to the box. using a bandsaw, cut off the four corners at 46 degrees to the sides of the box. remove the lid. cut four pieces big enough to cover the holes you just created at the four corners. glue those pieces over the holes. then saw off excess to about 1/8” from walls. “belt sand” the balance of the excess to meet the walls. If you want to add the corner trims (the padouk part) cut away where walls meet at 45 degrees to the corner. glue in small pieces, bigger than the walls. then sand back with belt sander. TADA!!!!!
