Chess board

Project by degoose posted 226 days ago 505 views 3 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Made this one a while ago.. Silver Ash and Tassie Blackwood with individual borders [around each square] of Silver Ash and Purpleheart and outer boarder of Tassie Blackwood. I was tempted to mitre the corners of the small borders but was pushed for time..:LOL These are all glued separately!! Solid not veneer..3/4” thick
Squares are 45mm…standard size.

Thanks Ellen
Wasn’t going to post this at first.
I just had two commissions for chess boards and remembered this one so got the pics out.

Larry, I am glad that you posted this project. This is a nice board and the border detail adds a nice look to the board.

Nice job.

You must have too much time on your hands. :-)

I do really like the effect of the small borders on the individual squares, though.

I can only agree with the other comments. You have a knack for this sort of detail work. Very well done.

Great piece Larry! When you block all those small pieces in with a border how do you deal with expansion and contraction?

Spanky the pieces are so small that the stresses are minimal!
