I carved this bicycle-seat shaped handle in a piece of Curly Maple wood. I spent several hours shaping and sanding this handle into what it is now. I hand-peeled and sanded the Dogwood stick, leaving a little of the Cambium layer to add some contrast. The stick is spiral shaped due to Honeysuckle vine choking the life out of it as it was growing, forcing it to grow in this way- Very cool and unique.
I attached a piece of leather to the bottom of the stick to protect the wood of the stick, the surface that the stick comes into contact with, and for a good ground grip.
This cane is 33 1/2” long. I can shorten it if you need. The handle is 4 3/8” long. The stick is 1 3/8” in diameter at the widest point.
The handle is attached to the stick using a method of all-thread and two-part epoxy. This is a very, very strong joint. The entire stick is finished with 3 coats of UV resistant, gloss Spar Urethane.
