Hallway Benches

I made two what I call hallway benches for my daughters for Christmas last year. My oldest daughter wanted a black finish and the younger daughter wanted a cherry finish. I used poplar to make both of the benches and then selected an ebony stain for the black bench. I mixed a light oak gel stain with a cabernet gel stain for the cherry bench…...all Minwax brand. The third picture is what the benches looked like prior to the finishes being applied.

I think they turned out fairly decent and so did the girls (but they’re biased). I have a more lengthy and more detailed article about these benches on my website if you care to read it at: http://www.oldaveswoodshop.com/Hallbench.php

Dave, these are nice benches. I like the symmetry between the curved top and bottom rails. These benches were wonderful gifts that not only serve as nice pieces of furniture but also add needed storage as well. Poplar can be a challenge to stain but you did a good job with these.

Nice job.

Cool bench seat. I like the idea of the storage under it.
