Spalted Poplar Bowl

I got out this morning before it got so hot I couldn’t stand it and cracked open one of the kilns to see what was in there. I pulled several blanks out and decided to turn a piece of poplar. I knew it would give me fits with some checks and tear out but I stuck it on a faceplate and got started. It fought the good fight and I never got all of the tear out smoothed even with the 60 grit skew. Even though it was bone dry it was warping as I turned it to the point I just stopped and sanded it the best I could.

The finish isn’t as smooth as I was hoping and the grain raised so I will have to go back and sand it out to 1000 grit to get it decent but not a terrible little bowl. 7 1/8” x 2 1/8”

Nice looking Bowl, that soft wood is a bitch hey.
I love the 60grit skew, I use one quite often. Sometimes I have to resort to the 40grit one but not very often.
Thanks for sharing.

Bob.

Still a good looking bowl. Lots of character.
