Large Segmented Bowl

I made this bowl as a gift for my wife’s 50th birthday. It is made of curly maple, walnut, cherry, and black veneer. It contains a total of 230 pieces and it 10” OD and just under 10” in height with the lid. Finish is shellac as a sealer and then spray gloss lacquer.

This has been my largest and most complex segmented project yet.

Thanks for looking.

That came out great. The segments don’t seem to have any gaps and the polish/finish is really nice. I like the solid walnut bottom, too.

Beautiful work you did there. Your use of the black veneer to outline the ring really makes it pop. Also, segmenting the lid so the curls in the maple are continuous…. no end grain! That bowl is sure to become a family heirloom. Nice job!
