i made this box for no reason or person in mind, just for fun!. the main box is made from tiger maple and purple heart, the top is a strip of tiger maple with mahogany on the sides. i used some cherry for the bottoms. the front pannel is hinged on some brass pins and the front pannel parts were cut at a 45 degree angle to allow them to pivot with out binding and when closed the seam all but dissapears! the bottom is a pull out tray for cell phones or wallet and keys and to lid is counter sunk and pulls off for what ever else, as i said i made it for fun and have always loved the contrast of maple and purple heart. i finished it with a few coats of tung oil brei wax and a final sanding with 600 grit.

As you say PH and Maple [especially tiger] go well together and a fine construction of the box

The Ambrosia streak in the Tiger Maple really adds to the box lid. I’m picturing it with PurpleHeart rather than the Mahogany in the lid though . The concealed drawer and working drawer front are truly unique ! The separation of the two pieces is barely noticeable at all. ...Nice finish on it too : ) The joinery is a first for me to see …great idea. I’d be proud to say that I made it !
