This is my new lathe, I made it last week. The heastock is 1/2” plate filled with concrete, the turning capacity is 32” and the spindle is 2” with 1” – 8 and 1.5” -8 threads machined at the nose.
The pice on the lathe is a 12” by 22” black walnut vase. I keep it covered with a bag when I am not turning.

I will see if I can take a short video
If anyone wants plans I will be happy to share. I have very little invested in this, just time and $150.00 in bearings and spindle. If someone bought all material motor and pulleys I would geuss less than $500 for a very heavy duty lathe.

The last vase I tried looked just like yours ….. but my bag was plastic and on the curb.
Definitely heavy duty turning.

Nice job. For the next project build a cover for the pulley and belt to keep the little hands of kids safe.

would love to get ur plans from this! concrete filled pieces seem like a great way to weigh things down, especially if you’re not set up to be casting ur own metal. I’m drooling at 32” capacity =))
Have your say...
