Floating Shelf with Drawers -
Please enjoy pictures of an unplanned result.
It started when I read about miter folding on LJs. I had to try it, so ordered a bit from Amana. For skills development I first tried to miter fold some 1/2 inch birch plywood sheets I had. The set of three open top boxes resulted.
Tape reinforced the plywood:
Cut v grooves:
Cut out the corner pieces and fold up:
Not bad for a first try at miter folding:
I didn’t know what to do with them so i set them aside. Later I read about the kerf maker on LJs. I had to try it, so I made one. Now I wanted to make it work so built a case to receive the open top boxes as drawers.
kerf maker:
Cut kerfs in a piece of 1/2 baltic birch plywood:
Assembled with overhanging ends:
The back has a cavity for a french cleat:
Trimmed with the drawers inside:
Zoomed:
Things were going so nicely, I decided to edge band in wenge and veneer it.
It was the first time I used stick on veneer, mahogany. Which led me to learn that I need shellac first. Eventually the whole thing was three coats of shellac and wax inside and out.
Now I have a floating shelf with drawers supporting my shop stereo.
Thanks for looking.

Unplanned us always fun. It’s always a plus as well when they turn out so nice. Good job.
