Traditionally built, notched logs, cherry, alder and Walnut. Mahogony framed and windows, Alder roof, 250+ shingles on 16 trusses, Cedar base with a slate stone chimney. all in all, 20 plus pounds but beautiful. T-1 size mailbox, black. finished with boiled linseed oil. 54 degree pitch on the roof. the chimney was supposed to be the flag, but after it was built, it was way to heavy to be a flag. still working on the flag but I think it will be a small sign hanging on the front that says mail pick up.
I want to carve a rack of antlers for the front, time will tell.

Now that’s a lot of work for a mailbox. I assume you have no problem with mailbox destruction where you live. It’s rare around here, so I may attempt one similar. Great job.

You have a done great job! It beautiful! I too have always wanted to this but I replace my mailbox almost yearly as I pick up the battered or flatten remains of them.

That is really cool, did you build it from plans or wing it? It looks real…nice job on the chimney.

Great design but Like Kindlingmaker I wouldn’t dare put it out on the road side. I have a box made out of 1-1/4” plywood mounted on two 6X8s planted 3 feet in the ground. It is built similar to the USPS blue box with the tilt front that drops the mail down inside where a thief can’t reach it. I retrieve the mail from a padlocked door on the back side. Rural mail boxes are subject to both vandalism and mail theft so this one prevents both.
I would love to see the first vandal who swings a baseball bat at my box. His hands will sting for a week.
