This is my favorite project so far. I suspended a 13”x11” piece of fabric over a wooden base using magnetic repulsion. Under the fabric there’s an array of neodymium magnets that corresponds with an identical and opposite array under the top layer of curly maple on the base. The corners are anchored to keep the carpet from drifting, but otherwise it floats freely about 3/4” above the wood. The guitar tuning pegs are used for making fine adjustments to properly align both the magnetic arrays.

I’ve also posted this project on behance here along with some of my other portfolio work. Enjoy!
