This is the second towel holder I made for our bathroom. The first was made out of cherry. It is framed in black walnut with a curly maple panel. I finished it with a oil blend, and came back over that with a few coats of thinned urethane. I hope the finish holds up with the high humidity levels you get in a bathroom.

It came out great. I’m probably going to need to build something similar. I would be interested to see how the finish holds up or if people have recommendations for finishes to use in the bathroom.

Might be a little over-kill, but… how about a spar varnish? If it will last a year or two on a boat or out in the weather, then I’m sure it would last a bit longer in the less-hostile environs of a bathroom.

I made this hand towel holder from oak and used several coats of poly thinking it would hold up better to the humidity of the bathroom. I had to sand and recoat it after about a year to my surprise.

I was thinking about replacing our current one … I think you have inspired me. It’s going on my list!

I agree with Ethan you may need a little spar varnish on it. But it will last a while like it is. Great looking towel racks. jockmike
