I saw one of these on the Pen Turners Guild website a little while back and thought I’d give it a try. It only took me about 3 months to finally get started on it. I had a chunk of rather figured hard maple kicking around that I was going to do a twist pen out of, but thought I’d see how it would work for this. I got to practice my finial work with this pen. I ran into a few challenges as it got thinner at the end. It was hard to find that balance of pressure where it wouldn’t slip on the jam chuck I made, but also would bend it. I’m very pleased with how it turned out (no pun intended), it’s very comfortable to hold and write with.

Nice work. I’ve made a few of these, and they are quite popular with people.

Nicely turned calligraphy pen. Great job!
I used to use this kind of pen when I was 7yrs old (about 48yrs ago) for writing beautiful letters – Roman & Arabic.
