This was built for my grandson who was into dinosaurs at the time. This project had a coupe of firsts for me, one was the stain. My daughter said that everything in my grandsons bedroom was dark and so she wanted a dark stain. I found an ebony stain and figured it doesn’t get any darker than that so on it went. I was afraid the black stain would cover the grain too much but it worked out pretty good. The second thing was the dinosaur inlay, I had never done inlay before and this was anything but a simple geometric shape but I wanted to do something to make it more personal and I had been wanting to try my had at inlay so I thought I would go for it. The inlay is Hickory and it was very tedious staining around it. I used a grain filler on the top to get a smooth finish and sprayed it with a C.A.B. lacquer.
