Purloined the Idea may as well keep the name. Second project started and finished today [ ok so I spent ALL day in the shed ]
Again wanted to be different and as I had a spare cube I put it in.
European Wild Cherry [ bought over 3,500 board feet of it] so I guess I gotta use it.
Tasmanian Blackwood [ again cos I have a bit of it} I used this as a boarder as well as one of the ‘cube’ sides
New Guinea Rosewood [ yep lots of that too]
Purpleheart splines [ cos I like it]
Hope you like it.
Larry

Beautiful, Larry. I really love the illusion of “depth” on this.

You are the board Master! You keep saying basic and simple but these boards are blowing my mind. I can’t seem to figure them out. You should put together a How-to blog on one of these, for us novice members.
Awesome!

Great job Larry. I love looking at your boards. I have a quick question. How do you keep the mitered frame together with seasonal wood movement of the board??? Thanks and keep up the great work.

I use Splines the length of the frame and a Mitre Key In the corners and pray like H that it holds. So far I haven’ t had a problem with that , here’s hoping.

Looks pretty good, you almost have it down pat. In checking to see if you have the pieces in right, an easy way is to run your eye along each row of diamonds, point to point, and see if there is no brake in the line. Hold the board up at a slant if nothing else, and sight down the line, there should be an unbroken line of diamonds point to point on all 3 lines. One thing I watch for is having ALL of the wood grain going the same direction on each type of wood; this will give the finished product a woven look.
You have the basic principle down very well; you just need to “tweak” the assembly.
