My first small box

Project by griff posted 242 days ago 416 views 0 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is my first box. As one has said before, This is no CharlieM. even though I`v been inspired by Charlie and so many other master box makers on LJs. It came about by a flop I made while running crown molding for cabinet in a previous post. I ripped the bottom off a piece of crown and used the top part for the box. The top is a beautiful piece of burl. I had a very difficult time trying to get the correct shape, I think it looks OK But am not really pleased with it. If I ever have time to do another one maybe I can do better. It is made of walnut and maple, and has two coats of Tung oil.

I think all that you need to know about the success of your first box is in that last shot! I think it’s a great box. Clean work, very innovative shape, great finish, and that crotch figured walnut is gorgeous. Looks like you’ve been making boxes for years.

Griff,

It may be the first but it will not be the last, they are very habit forming. As DB says above, ask the opinion of the end user to get a real feeling of ‘job well done’.

nothing wrong with the box & the top is so nice & i think all woodworkers see flaws in their own works & most of the time no one else does .
