My last project talked about the beauty of straight grain. Just so I can appease the wild grain crowd, here is a beautiful example of Curly Koa.
Finish again is BLO after 12k sanding, Hut PPP wax as top coat.

Shannon,
That is some of the most wild grain I have seen. My eyes poped out just looking at the high quality photos you took. Great work bringing out the beauty that Mother Nature had hidden in that wood.

Hi Shannon,
Very beautiful pen and the grain is just wonderful. I am kind of new to turning so I have a question, on the finish you said BLO, what is BLO? also the Hut PPP wax, what is that and where would i get it?

Sorry Joan, I tend to speak in acronyms. BLO is boiled Linseed Oil, and PPP stands for Perfect Pen Polish. Hut is the manufacturer. You can get Hut wax in any turning catalog or at Woodcraft. Here is a link to Penn State for one example. I use two sticks. The brown stick applies a satin sheen to the wood, then I follow up with the white stick which brings it to a high gloss.
