Had a request for 40 keepsake boxes… 10 inches by 8 inches by 4 inches high….they would supply the timber… slabs of Camphor Laurel… 2inches thick…
Lots of milling and dressing to get the dimensional timber required for delicate boxes…will blog the processes with photos soon…
So far have 2 made… and another 3 ready to go… have to finish by the 4th July…Just waiting for the rest of the slabs to be delivered.
Finish is Penetrol penetrating oil, and the insert is stiffened felt… cut with the laser for perfect accuracy…
Last pics shows the Gifkin Dovetail Jig…. what a pearler…
PS… the lid insert is book matched…

Tarry, I love those boxes, and the Camphor is such a beautiful timber. The colours are so variable.
Great job and a great order.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Good old Aussie pest the Camphor Laurel (from asia) If only they knew earlier.

Oh well more for us

Did I tell you about the time when I brought a car load back in the old Volvo from Kyogle, by the time I got to Nimbin I had to wind the windows down as I thought I had been smokin something from the fumes!
