I’ve had 3 big (46”x25”) chunks of cedar for a year now – they were supposed to be for an outside table, but, apparently, we don’t need one. But we did need another bench, so, flushed with the success of the origami table I came up with this somewhat similar design. I wasn’t sure it would be strong enough, so I didn’t have the nerve to hack up a big bit of wood to make tapered legs, and the look has suffered as a result. Still, it works, at least for now. I left one side “au naturale”.
As usual, the photographs don’t do the beauty of the wood justice, but they flatter the somewhat iffy joinery.
Cedar top, oak legs – usual oil/turps/varnish finish.

Looks really cool, but I would be afraid to perch my large caboose on it. Really like it though and it gives me some ideas for some large cedar logs I recently acquired. Great work.

Nice looking, but knowing the hardness of cedar, I’m with Gary… if I sat on that, you’d have” law suit” flash before your eyes, as I had my whole life flash before mine.
