THIS IS A BOX WITH A MUSICAL WINDUP & SLIDING TRAY INSIDE. THE TOP , BOTTOM, FRONT & BACK IS FIGURED MAPLE 1/2” THICK & THE SIDES IS A WOOD CALLED WAMARA & COMES FROM SOUTH AMERICA, THE CORNERS WERE DONE WITH MY ROUTER & A SPECIAL FIXTURE TO MAKE THIS JOINT SOMETHING LIKE A DOVETAIL JOINT, THE INLAY ON THE LID IS MAHAGONY, THE FEET WERE MADE FROM WALNUT, THE LID SHOWS A LOT OF FIGURE & WAS A LITTLE TRICKY GETTING A SMOOTH FINISH BECAUSE OF THE GRAIN, THE ENCLOSURE FOR THE MUSICAL WINDUP WAS ENCLOSED USING MAPLE BURL, THE TRAY WAS MADE FROM SPALTED MAPLE SIDES & SAPELE BOTTOM & THE RUNNERS INSIDE THE BOX WERE MADE FROM BUBINGA, BRASS BUTT HINGES, BRASS CHAIN, & BRASS KNOB & A OVAL MIRROR, THE BOX MEASURES 12 1/2 ” X 6 1/8” X 6 3/4” high , I USED NATURAL DANISH OIL & WET SANDED BETWEEN COATS THEN A WIPE ON POLY ON THE INSIDE I USED SHELLAC., ON THE OPEN VIEW AT THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER IS THE MAPLE BURL ENCLOSURE, THE PIC DOES NOT SHOW IT TO CLEARLY.

Really nice work. The wood pattern rolling around the front is especially nice.

Very pretty box. I love the character of the figure and spalting, and the interesting jointery. Are they Leigh Isoloc joints?
