I built these a while back for my then wife who saw a similar design in a Pottery Barn catalog. The ones she saw were black and we had nothing in the livingroom that was black and besides they were over $60 each. I found a piece of 8/4 oak and surprised her with these for her birthday. The picture does not show the inside detail but the box has an inside bevel like a picture frame. The corners were done with biscuits and I also added pocket hole screws to the top and bottom and plugged them with oak dowels. The finish is just natural with a wipe on poly. The dimensions are 16” square on the outside and 4 1/2” deep.

Very nice work, sometimes simple designs look the best.

THEY DO LOOK GOOD , I JUST MADE A SET OF 3 SHADOW BOXES , 9” , 7”, & 5” SQUARE FOR MY WIFE MADE OUT OF PINE , TO HANG ON THE WALL OR A CORNER WITH THE BOXES INSIDE ONE ANOTHER, IT SEEMS THAT A SIMPLE DESIGN WORKS WELL TO, NICE JOB AGAIN.

Though look simple in design and construction, the placing/arrangement does add a pleasant and elegant look to the cozy colour of the wall. Great work, Grant!
