I Love Greene & Greene style projects. I am lucky enough to live near the Gamble House and it amazes me every time I walk through it how talented they were. Not to mention the Hall brothers who did a lot of the G&G’s woodworking.

I ran across these plans for this a while back and thought I have to make one. I used some Blue Oak I have and really struggled with this build. The wood is so hard and loves to splinter/chip. Making the fingers was a real bear. No matter how sharp I had the bits or how shallow of a pass I ran into trouble.

My Dad came out to Southern California to us visit for a cpl weeks. He saw this on the workbench in pieces, and asked about it and what it was. I told him a mail box I started a yr ago, it made me mad, and might be fire wood soon. He took that as a challenge to save it and we worked on it together…

Best 2 weeks of my life working in the shop with Dad! We worked on other stuff as well, but just hanging out and BS’ing was awesome.

We changed up the front of the plans as it was too busy with the front fingers in our opinion. It is finished with Penofins Penetrating oil and looking good hanging in the front.

Thx for looking.

Glad you had fun in the shop with this. How did you stop the splintering?

Very nice… I love Greene & Greene work.
I work down the street from the Thorsen House in Berkeley. Sometimes at lunch I walk up there to look around. Beautiful.
Great job you did there.
