the wood i used for the top is called black ash , it’s from eastern canada, there is a heart inlay of yellowheart in the center, with a inlay strip on all 4 sides, the wood for front & back is warama , this is a heavy wood from south america it’s like a rosewood, the hinges are made from curly maple, the legs are pen blanks made of cocobolo, the inside view shows a beaded chain to hold the lid from opening all the way back, with a oval mirror, i made a lift out tray made of maple for the sides & maple burl for the bottom, the side wood is spalted birch, the box measures 10” X 6 3/4” X 5 1/2” high, for the finish i started with natural danish oil with wet sanding up to 600 grit, then i put 4-5 coats of clear poly with a light sanding between each coat.
I don’t usually make a box with just one wood, as most of the time i don’t have enough wood for one box, so i really like the effect of using different woods th make my projects.

Great looking box! Lots of small but real nice details that add up.

Really nice box, very individual. The lift tray is a gorgeous surprise inside the box.
