The Cedar is Eastern Red Cedar that was locally sourced several years ago. I was riding home from work one evening and noticed a rather significant size Cedar tree, which had been cut into manageable sections, lying alongside the road way. I did notice that it was in the vicinity of the high voltage distribution lines. Namely, directly underneath them.
I assumed the utility company had cut the tree and was apparently going to return at a later date to pick up the portions to trash. That just tugged really deep. Like REAL deep…trashing wood, “No!”
So I stopped and asked the homeowner in the vicinity about the tree. A very nice young lady confirmed that the power company had told her they would be back to remove the segments from her property at another date. She gave me the green light to go ahead and remove them all.
A truck load later and some years air drying and here we are—- a single reed, Arkansas style duck call crafted from Cedar. It has a Bocote toneboard. Coated with several underlying coats of a proprietary mix and then has two topical coatings applied.
