I just finished this project for a customer. I used quartersawn walnut for the top and drawer fronts. The finish is tung oil.

That’s a beautiful piece Kate! Just love it. Incidently, I went to your website and took a look…I’m guessing the featured project is on your home page is your redition of Thomas Jefferson’s writing desk?

Hey Kate! very nice project. Does a customer bring you a picture of what they want or do they work with you on the design and give you the go ahead on a final design?

Thanks everyone,
To answer various questions:
Carl – yup, it’s Thomas Jefferson’s lap desk. I got the plans from the FW. I made the whole thing from a piece of mahogany I had been hoarding. I loved the grain and was waiting for just the right project
Gary – Usually a customer comes to me with an idea. In this case, she had a narrow hallway in her office where she needed to keep “stuff” from piling up. She told me what she needed to hide and we came up with the general idea, then I made suggestions about what I thought would look good against her woodwork.
