Greene and Greene meet Rustic Barn Boards
....well, here we go!

After much thinking about this project, I decided to use some old barn boards that I had salvaged seven years ago off the side of an old barn. When I say old barn, well this barn was built in the late 1700’s, so go and figure what year to date the boards at. Anyway my favorite barns are English Barns and so these boards have a touch of ‘ye old English’ in them and plenty of ground in character.

I do admire Greene and Greene furniture….however that’s not what I build, so I had to think about this one and what I could do with a Thorsen Side Table design. The top is five year old pine that has sat and weathered with age, to which I used hemlock for the legs and such, while also riving some birch and throwing that in also. All joint work has been done by using mortise and tenon joinery, which has been done by drill, hand and chisel.

I debated about how to finish but have chosen to go with tung oil, while at first I thought I might not do anything to the barn boards, but in the end I also finished them with tung oil.

Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank

....and when I had aged as well as fine grained wood, I saw that all my attempts at trying to become someone was vain, so in the forests of wood I have now found my place, were all is ‘very good’ and so I now give thanks….

Congratulations Frank.
A beautiful, but rugged ,& sturdy piece of furniture. The separation of the top and stretchers looks real nice, & very nice contrast with the staining.
All we need now is some of your poetry to go along with it.

Nice job Frank. I like the contrasting wood, and the way you raised the table above the aprons. Nice touch.

Hello Everyone;
—-I sincerely thank you all for your wonder-full comments here and am sorry about being late at getting back, it’s not that I’m ignoring any, but that I’ve been busily out straight here.

....and yes Dick, in answer to your wondering where the poem is, this to will come shortly once I have a poem that speaks from the heart of this piece of many assorted wood movements in the symphony of embracing ‘wood art’.

Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank

Frank -

I missed this one so I am very glad it popped up on the Shuffle!

Very nice . . . wonderful way to save some fine old wood. I think the wood sprits were talking to you on that one!
