this is my first project using this wood, cocobolo , & what a suprise to see the grain just pop when i put on a coat of natural danish oil . The box measures 7” X 3 1/2” X 2 5/8” high, with the sides 3/8” thick & top & bottom 1/4” , I made the box with a liftoff lid & used small 1/4” magnets in opposite corners to keep it in line, the earth magnets really are strong so for a box this size you wouldn’t want to use a larger magnet. After the danish oil I put on about 5 coats of clear poly with sanding with finer & finer grits after each coat, I then applied a couple of coats of minwax.

Beautiful box. The finish really shows off the wood.

This is a beautiful box. I have never had the opportunity to work with cocobolo but after seeing this it is a wood I would like to use.

Thanks for the post.

Great looking box, unfortunatly the wood is going to darken soon, as it always does on cocobola with an oil finish. Still looks great though.
