Thorsen Side Table Challenge- I had to...challenge01

Project by Obi posted 893 days ago 1207 views 3 times favorited 27 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Between the moving into the new shop, having to do all the business cr^p, get all the utilities hooked up, work on the Church cabinets, get all the tools in a semi-respectable place, my router died, so I had to order a new one which arrived yesterday and broke as soon as I took it out of the box… deadline is tomorrow and I don’t have the time to put the stretchers on the table, and finish doweling it…

This is my entry. I don’t expect to win but at least I’ll get a year of Popular Woodworking.

And as soon as the part for my router shows up I can add to this. Maybe David will have mercy on me and let me send him the completely finished piece. (I would really love having it in the greatest woodworking magazine I’ve ever seen.)

Omitting the self deprecating review of your table, I have to say, it’s a really nice entry and a really nice interpretation of the design. It’s supposed to have other parts? Jeez, it sure looks good to me. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Mot, it’s will eventually have stretchers and a bottom shelf and about 40 more dowels in it. I just ran out of time.

Obi, Mate, this is a fine entry. No need to make apologies – I’d love to have a table like this. The Hickory is a beaut timber – haven’t seen it in Ozz.

Nice work.

Looks great to me the way it is Obi. I like the grain pattern on the top. It adds to the “flavor” of the piece. I was unsure of how I would like it when you first described you choice of woods weeks ago. Now, I feel like that Life commercial ” he likes, he really liikes it.” Good work man! (great kiss up to the PW guy by the way ;) Be sure and take pictures of the new shop and share when things settle down a bit. I can only imangine your frustration with it all. Take care and watch out for splinters.

Obi: Great table. I love the Hickory and Walnut. The sawmill was cutting hickory the other day. I guess I’ll have to have him save me some.

Congratulations on finishing.

Nice wood choice…nothing wrong with this at all Obi…I’d be happy to wipe on a finish and call it done. Love the top grain.

Obi, I love the tops grain patterns. It’s really nice to see a light color wood which you can see the grain so well. Good luck!

That Hickory is sure beautiful. I think everyone that enters this challenge are winners. We wouldn’t have had these nice tables.
It’s nice just as is Obi. Good Luck !!

Way to go Obi. A nice table as is. The woods have a nice contrast, and the lines are sleek without the extra stretchers.

Very nice entry. You can keep off the cloud lifts. I like it.

Way to use up that Hunnerd Dollar board on a free magazine subscription… my board was free… oh wait, but all those hours and hours weren’t. ;) Nevermind.

What a great challenge you and Karson got started!

Well, I made a few mistakes so I cut the top off, shortened the legs and started on a Thorsen Greene & Greene coffee table, and used some more of the ol’ hunnerd dollar board to fix this table to what I want it to look like…pictures to follow
