My mother died last week . She wanted to be cremated so I decided to make her Urn. I first started by choosing the best piece of lumber I had . A burl Walnut limb I had drying into a 12’‘x12’’ hollowed round . I then hollowed another smaller walnut bowl from the same burl with a hollowed center to accept the footing from the larger bowl . I then cut three curved cuts out of the smaller bowl on the bandsaw to look like a curved base. I then turned a quilted maple lid about 13’’ wide with a 1/2’’ cut out for gluing a turned walnut lid inside it. I glued them together and turned the maple and walnut lid with a flat top. For the topI turned a 8/4 quilted maple bowl and cut three sections out to match the base. I then took a walnut base cut off flattened and glued to top of maple . I then glued a gold rosary cross to the top . My mother who had six cancer operations and still lived to 83 . She could love thru all her pain. Amazing story of will , survival and love. If I could only be half of what she was. I am lucky to have been her son. For my Mom I do my best work. All this and Heaven too.

Arthouse. Wow! What a beautiful story and a beautiful piece. I am deeply sorry for your loss. That being said, your work is a real inspiration in the perspective you take. In this I can see your true love and devotion to the craft and most importantly to the mother you held so dear your entire life.

Thank you for sharing this very touching moment and I will pray for you.

Keep doing what you do
