I made this set of brooder/nesting boxes for some friends this last summer to replace one that had disintegrated. I used t-111 for the back and sides since this makes up part of the perimeter of the chicken pen and has to take weather. It fits under a roof and ties in two other walls with the west (weak weather) side open. The face frames, roosting ledges and trim are kd pine with 3/8” birch ply for the separating walls and the two floors. The unit is joined with pocket screws (gotta love Kreg). The legs are only shown in the first picture and they are 2” x 4” treated doug fir. It measures 8’ x 4’ x 16”.
Even though I was egged on to complete this project, I knew that it was going to get “dumped”on! ;o) lol

I like it, and if the price of eggs keeps going up, I will be building one. =’)

My wife won’t let me have chickens in the yard. That’s pretty tough on an Arkansas boy! :-(
But if I could, I’d build a box just like yours Jack.

What are the individual box dimensions. I’m just now finishing a chicken coop and have not made the nesting boxs yet. Any help would be much appreciated.
Later, BTKS

I did mine about 16” wide by the same deep and tall but 18” would work well too you just have to tie in more t-111. I tried to stay within the dimensions and area of a normal sheet of t-111 and 18” tall. You noticed that the front slopes up so the top front is a bit taller. This should help draw excess heat/odor away especially in the summer. I have my plan somewhere and if you wanted more exact dimensions, let me know. It’s a fun project.

Nice job.
My2 cents:
I had Barred Rock chickens for several years and was lucky enough to be given nests like the one in the link below. The individual boxes were 7”H X 11 1/2”W and like the ones at this link.

Did you say “Birch Ply” ?
