My wife wanted to learn to play a mandolin so I made this for her. It is actually a mandello which has a longer scale and is to a mandolin as a viola is to a violin. I used figured maple for the neck and body and rosewood for the fretboard. I had made three guitars prior to making the mandola.

Beautiful!!! What a great thing to be able to make that for your wife. Playing that will make the music so much more special.
