Acorn tile framed in QSWO Mission Arts and Crafts Style frame

Project by DAN posted 236 days ago 536 views 1 time favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Framed stoneware tile from Ravenstone tile works in Seattle. Artist Laura Reutter, founder of Ravenstone. Frame made a couple weeks ago. Built in a batch w/ of 7 other frames. Not much labor in the piece due to the batch run.
Quartersawn white oak frame is simple mortise and tenon construction. The 4 pieces are different thicknesses and offset to create a shadow line in the design. It is 10×10 inches.
I call this my pagoda style frame. finish is aniline alchohol dye with oil stain. shellac top coat, thick brown paste wax rubbed in with beartex.

This one is sold, but their may be others for sale on ebay.

Where do you come up with these frame ideas? I’m impressed. Another beautiful design, project.

I love your use of dyes to make the grain pop. Thanks for sharing.

I think I’ve been out of the loop a little lately, and don’t know how I missed this one. Great looking piece as usual, I’m always impressed with your style and work. Excellent job.
