Thanks to all for the nice comments. I have turned a forest of exotic wood into sawdust over the years. This chest and bed set is one of the only projects that I felt comfortable showing to really good wood artists.
Now my wife wants bedside chests to match. However, I have a bit of utility room cabinetry to do first.
The finish is 2/3 lacquer and 1/3 thinner. brushed on 4 coats. final sand to 1800 grit.
The bed is so heavy, we may use it for a storm shelter!
