This is a blanket chest I built for my nephew and
his wife as a wedding present.

The wood for this project was air dried cherry from a
tree my dad had cut down.

The wood was stained with a gel stain and finished with shellac and lacquer.

The inside is lined with red cedar.

Nice job. It sure looks great. I love the look of stained cherry…its such a rich looking wood.

I am about to embarq on the same type of project. I plan to build a steamer chest out of chestnut for my son and his wife to be for their wedding in June. I hope it turns out as nice as yours.

I will be building two hope chests in the next couple of years for daughters when they get married. I’ve seen a lot of them here. This and another one are two designs I have bookmarked. Very nice clean lines. Thanks for sharing it.

Very nice work ! Your proportions are spot on! I’m sure that will be a family heirloom.
