Tool Cabinet

Project by Cam posted 256 days ago 934 views 7 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This cabinet came from Fine Wood Working #188, and was my first real project. Its basically made from birch plywood held together with finger joints. I havent quite filled it up yet, but being a hand tool nut I’m well on my way. My only addition to add will be drawers in the bottom section, that will be a good place to practice hand cut dovetails. I also still need to put a good protective finnish on it but I wanted to hang most of the staple hand tools with hangers and brackets. I wouldnt change a thing on the design, I love it.

My shop is slowly getting to be usable and I have scads of the red metal mechanic toolboxes which while nice enough don’t really seem to lend themselves to the organization that your toolbox presents. I like the idea of using a toolbox project to practice your joinery….I think I may follow suit. Thanks for the inspiration.

I’m in the process of designing a cabinet; what are the dimensions on this one? It looks great.

Great job. I want to make a couple of these for my shop. I think it would help to consolidate wall space. I have become a collector of hand planes and would like a place to show them off, but aso be able to get to them easy for work.

Great cabinet! It seems like a liot of nice stuff comes from things you need in the shop, doesn’t it.
