A Study in Color

Project by Mikelknot posted 259 days ago 383 views 0 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites Watch

A study in color is just what this pelican was, trying to keep the heartwood color for the bill and the knot for the eye. I didn’t want to paint it but the white sap wood yellowed up on me within seconds of carving it.

The last picture is the before! Do you see what I saw?

WOW, that’s incredible to see that in the raw wood. Really fantastic! WOW!

Jack, thanks, if you go to my website, there is the bio on how I came to do this. I admit that sometimes a little studying under Jose Cuerrvo is required, but the only tool I use is a dull pencil to remind me of what it was that I saw.

Gorgeous!

I admire your ability to see the finished object within the rough piece.

Lew, I’ve had other carvers say the only way they see anything in wood is to have alot of pictures available then start carving. Thanks for the comment, later, mike
