My good friend Bill, asked me to carve Rusty’s name on this cross.
It was one year to the day that Rusty passed away.
Rusty was Bill’s son’s dog, but ever since Bill retired,
he would go visit Rusty, & they made their daily walk a ritual.
There’s been a vacant spot in Bill’s heart ever since Rusty passed away.
I asked Bill if it would be all right, for me to carve a relief of Rusty.
He didn’t have a picture of quite the pose I needed.
Not being an artist myself, I searched Google for an image of a Golden Retriever,

& found this one, which was just what I needed.
You can see more pictures of this project in My Blog.

that’s a great tribute to Rusty, Dog’s are such loyal companions. I have a Golden Retriever and don’t know what i would do without him. Great job,

Beautiful work and and equally beautiful sentiment. I have a golden also, and she is my baby! Great work Dick.

Thank you Chris,
Now Bill has to wait for the frost to leave the ground.
It could more than a month.

I was checking out the home sites of the LJ members in general just to get acquainted so to speak and I ran across this carving of Rusty, I just had to make a comment on it. I know how fond one can be of a dog and I find it a fitting tribute. Beyond that, I want to complement your skill in producing such a fine carving on what looks to be pretty soft wood. I can see that you have many other projects which I haven’t seen yet, but I like this one and thought I should let you know.
