This was a father-son project: He said he wanted one and I made it. In fairness, he did develop the specifications and improved the design. The main requirement was that the design would in some way indicate centers of gravity for 2, 3 or 4 large diameter wine glasses. That led me to the basic design. His improvement was to make basket weave.

The woods are maple, bubinga and wenge. The dimensions are 18.5” x 12” x 1.5” I went with a 20 degree compound bevel for the sides. I drew 15 and 20 degree full size images and the latter looked better to my eye. I found the compound miters t be quite challenging, but I won in the end (with a little help from some 23G pins, but please don’t tell anyone). :) I wanted the color contrast to be as great as possible, so I used WB poly for the finish. The strips are inlaid 1/16”.

Thanks for looking and for any comments.

The tray turned out really nice! The detail and work you put in to it really shows! It is perfect!

I would be happy to be served up a nice hot cup of tea or a nice cold beverage from your tray!

Thanks for sharing
