Finished this Cherry wood project a couple of months ago – was very interesting & challenging. I used a project out of WoodSmith mag for a dresser chest & my wife wanted me to cut down on ALL dimensions (was a late Christmas gift!) so it took a while to revise all dimensions. First time for using a wood dyes – I was skeptical at first but it turned out pretty good.

Nice work, although it looks like 12 drawers to me…

Looks good. Cherry is a nice wood to work with and looks good when finished.
Plans are made to give you something to change from and you did a good job on the changes.

Very nice. Like the contrasting color of the base and top.

That’s a great piece, I’ll bet you had fun on that. I too like the contrast of colors.

Would you share what dyes you used and your overall finish plan?

Great work.

Sorry for long delay in sharing the finish on this project – been out of pocket for the last couple of weeks.

I used a Minwax Cherry wood 50/50 mix of stain & Gel stain for the cabinet. For the top & base (and drawer handles), I used a 4:1 ratio of Natural Antique Cherry dye to Honey Amber Maple dye mixture (in 12 oz of warm water). The final finish involved 4 coats of Polyurethane sanding between coats.

Hope that helps.
