Two-Toned Murphy Bed

Project by Chris Davis posted 258 days ago 616 views 0 times favorited 3 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is a Murphy bed that was completed in March 2009. It is our Alpine version in a queen turned sideways. What makes this one unique is the two tone color. The top, crown, feet blocks, base, and the edge of the verticals were all stained a Dark Walnut with a Dark cherry stain. The face, headboard and two sides of the verticals were stain in a Gunstock from Minwax.

I’ve tried this type of finish before on a display that I didn’t really like the color of paint, so I just switch out some of the pieces and gave it a different look. This is where the customer got the idea from, the display I once had.

The hard part was finishing out the verticals that had both the colors on them. I had to wipe on the dye, instead of spraying it, to keep it only where I wanted it, on that front edge. I did the same with the stain. When I sprayed the lighter stain color for the rest of the vertical, I made sure the gun was angled , so I wouldn’t get overspray back on the edge. I also had to be careful with wiping not to contaminate the original color.

Here is a picture that inspired this one:
