Went through a phase where I had to build chessboards. I went looking for a nice set of chess pieces in carved wood (hah!). You can spend an arm and a leg for pieces! The squares on these boards are quite large, 2.25” square, so I need big pieces. In the end, I settled for ceramic pieces weighted inside and finished with a felt bottom. One day I will buy a set of Stanton Rosewood pieces! I am still looking for the rest of the photos?

That is a great looking board!
Don’t buy chess pieces, make them.

sure, easy for you to say. They scare me! ;-)
Maybe one day when I have a bit more time and a block of rosewood I will give it a try. I can’t quite imagine making 2 matching kings or queens, much less 16 matching pawns.

I really like the colors on the second board.
