Project Information

I haven't posted projects for a while and have just completed this vase and flower scroll sawed project. The vase is based on a pattern by Steve Good (http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.ca/) with celtic overlays, pattern by Sheila Landry (http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/product/SLD494). The vase is scroll sawed from basswood with the sides made from fir and red cedar. The handles of the vase are black walnut. The overlays are black walnut and I added a seed pearl on each butterfly. The flower, based on a pattern by Steve Good is compound cut on the scroll saw with the petals, leaves and stem cut from maple. The centre piece of the flower is cocobolo.

Well . . . Spring has sprung, but I must admit this is the first time I've seen Celtic butterflies.
Beautiful project Anna. Any idea on the total time involved?

Thank you all for your very kind comments.
John, I'm not sure how much time overall it took me to do this. I'm usually fitting in a few things at a time so don't really take note of time for a specific project. When I cut out the butterflies, for example, I cut out several of Sheila's celtic designs at the same time. As I was cutting those out the idea formatted in my head of the vase and flower.

Lovely! I made a wooden vase with flowers for a friend of mine as a gift last year - I thought it a great use of scrap wood and a fun project to do. You did a wonderful job on yours.
