This is a rosewood box with a purple heart base. I put a curly maple lid on top, laminated in a piece of cocobolo and made the handle out of ebony. I think the cocobolo was a mistake though. The inlay needed to be something with a more consistent colour the grain in cocobolo doesn’t really work.

Although I really liked the rosewood grain matching around the corner, looks great. The grain even seems to match on the unmatched ends. First time I tried to do it with a mitered corners. Worked out well :)

This is a nice box and I don’t think that the cocobolo is a mistake at all it adds a nice visual detail to the box. The rosewood and maple make a nice contrast to one another. I would have liked to see more pictures of the box, especially an angled shot of the sides showing the grain match and others of the inside.

What finish did you use on it?

I agree with Scott…more photos!

I love rosewood, and I really love what you did with the top. I think the inlay really ties the lid into the rest of the box.

Cool little box. Think you have some good details there. The handle is an excellent idea. Keep working it, You’ll get what you want eventually with the wood selection you’re satisfied with. Clean and simple, I like it!

That inlay was what drew me to this box in the first place. Its my favorite detail on this piece. Nice job.
