Big Screen TV Entertainment Cabinet

Project by APLJaK posted 260 days ago 745 views 7 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Entertainment cabinet constructed from cherry and baltic birch to match an exisitng set of coffee and end tables. The shelves are tinted black glass as is the glass in the doors. There is a hidden wire chase below the cabinet and an integral power conditioner/protector. The center channel speaker is hidden behind the center fabric panel. There are two drawers, a deep one that accommodates CD’s and DVD’s and a shallow one which is useful for extra remote controls.

This is my first serious attempt at using Sketchup to design a piece before construction. It worked out quite well as I was able to play with the sizes to ensure everything would fit.

Thanks Jerry

The top is 21” deep * 63” wide and the cabinet is 24” tall. Each of the bays is wide enough to accommodate a stereo component. The center is 18” wide while the sides are a little wider due to the ‘legs’ width. The doors are 17.25” wide but the side bays are actually 19.25” wide inside. The center channel bay is the weak link in the design. I sized it to fit the center channel that I had but now see that it will not accommodate many of the new generation center channel speakers. In fact, the design of the cabinet would have to be substantially changed as the new speakers tend to be quite large. Overall it works very well. The height could be adjusted to suit your sitting height and size of the tv it is designed for.
