Nice jig, simple in design, pretty fast to make, very handy and most importantly functional.

Great idea. I have been looking for a simple sled that I can make for my small saw. May just have to try this idea.
BTW.. Welcome to LumberJocks.

How do you deal with the non-standard craftsman miter slot? Did you need to create runners in the same profile as the original miter gauge?

Hey CoolDavion – The non-standard craftsman miter slot has been quite a pain when making jigs to fit. First, the slot isn’t 3/4” like most, its smaller, I think its 5/8”. Second, there are small extensions jutting out over the top of the miter slot to prevent your miter gauge from pulling straight up and out of the slot. So, I rabbet my runners to fit, something like shown in the picture. I do not like the fact that both of these setbacks require that my runners have much less material than if I had a normal miter slot.

I have a very similar Craftsman saw. I used a router and expanded the channel out to 3/4” and can now use a normal miter gauge. You have to be sure you really have enough material around the channel.
How did you do your zero clearance inserts? I did something but it is a real pain creating new inserts.
