I finished the bottom part 6 years ago, almost day for day (see here http://lumberjocks.com/projects/22746).

It took some time to finally get around to get on a large project but I’m glad I did because my skills improved a bit since I completed the first part.

i used the same wood Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) and curly maple. The new jatoba is a bit more clear than the old one, I hope time will blend the difference.

The joinery is mainly dovetails, except for the sides of the frame that were done with a domino – definitely a lot easier than the double mortise and tenons !

The finish used is 3 coats of shellac followed by 4 coats of oil varnish.

Thanks for watching

The calendar doesn’t matter; the results do. And you’ve got great results.

Just gorgeous and the contrasting woods really make it visually pop. Very well crafted and who cares how long it takes if you don’t have a deadline? IMHO

Nice work. I feel you on the take forever projects. Worth it in the end but the road is always long.
