Oil-less Gun Rack

Project by thelt posted 267 days ago 594 views 1 time favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is an oil-less gun rack made from good ole Ga. southern yellow pine (3/4” dimensional lumber), Straight from the big box store. It was built a few years ago when my shop was a 10’ X 10’ building behind the house. All I had then were hand tools and a RAS. The design was in one of the woodworking magazines, not my original idea. The magazine has long since gone, but I plan on building a couple of more of these for friends that have asked for one.

The design is predicated on the idea that any oil in the rifle will not seep into the stock and weaken the stock where it joins to the gun. I thought it a good idea and built two at the same time. I presented one to a good friend that was an avid hunter.

The 2nd picture shows the trigger guard mounting. The 3rd picture is the barrel mount. 4th photo is a small storage compartment for ammo and other misc items. 5th photo shows handgun capabilities and there are four pegs for handguns at the top (most of my handguns are stored throughout the house in easy access points). As is evident in the photos the pegs come in handy for other items too! The last photo show a feeble attempt at decoupage. Looked better when it was originally done.

Great job. I never thought of the oil problem.

Good idea! I just don’t know if I could get used to looking at my guns hanging upside down. :-)

My first Jr. High woodworking shop project was a maple gun rack for my .410 Mossberg Shotgun. Boy! That was way back in ‘54. I still have the gun rack and the shotgun.
