This bowl is of spalted oak. Where the trunk split into three branches there was some interesting interaction of the grain.

Very nice, do you use some kind of grinder to hollow them out?

Wow, Mike. You’re a longterm LbJ.
Went to your home page. Been to Fulda. Sorry ‘bout all the ailments. Been thru a few myself. I just prayed for you.
Man, do you have some beautiful stuff posted. The box with the unique top is very original and beautiful. Absolutely love the live edge bowl. Would give an eye tooth for some of the burls you’ve worked with. Where did you get them?
I use an arbotech, which, like your Lancelot, amounts to a mini-chainsaw. After that I use burrs to smooth off the rough edges of the carver, then polish with buffs. Your stuffs a lot better than mine. I’m just playing and learning. Just got started making sawdust after my retirement. I’m a genuine newbie and I thingk it shows in my work. Slowly, but I hope surely, I’m getting better. It’s thanks to all the pointers I get on here. There’s some real expertise, whatever you endeavor to do with wood. Have a great day and keep me posted.

You have some nice projects, think I like this one best. Nice use of the burl in all of them.

Thanks, Jack. You sure got some neat projects. Like the small stands. I might do a couple similar to those for a specific application I have. Awesome scrimshaw!!
