This is a style some of you may recognize. No, I didn’t buy the kit, but came up with my own version and it has been quite a good seller for me. The first picture on the main page is done in walnut. The second picture is cherry and was a special order. The customer is a woodworker himself and has done his home in cherry and wanted to finish the unit himself. I really wanted to sell a finished product, but I try to accept that the customer is always right.

I have been wanting to make something like that to give to someone but have never gotten the time or been to sick.

The barometer is that the one called the Galliano one where you can tell the weather by how many are floating?

Also nice contrast between the black walnut and silver instruments.

Arlin,

Thanks for you nice comments. This is a Galileo thermometer that is used to tell temperature. There is a good definition of how it works on Wikipedia. The inserts are gold, not silver. I need to work on my photography. Unfortunately, this is the only photo I have until I build another one in walnut.

A great project!

I have a retired friend who was a radio meteorologist and taught meteorology at St. Louis University. I would love to make one for Ben. Where did you get the Galileo thermometer? The only ones I could find were already attached to bases.

WoodNSawdust,

You can find the thermometers at Klockit.com. If you are into larger purchases and have a tax number, you can go to Primexusa.com, which is the wholesale arm of Klockit. You can save some money, but you need to spend at least $100. You might also search for coupons on Klockit. They vary from offering free shipping to some percentage off. Good luck and if you need more assistance, please let me know.

Thanks. A Google search did not turn up anything but finished product.

WoodNSawdust,

Look here “www.retailmenot.com/view/klockit.com” and I think you will find something. In the future you can search using “klockit coupon” and this will help you find the coupon sites that have coupons.
