Wall Shelves

Cherry shelves set in what I think is a walnut post, with matching edging. The post has a 1”x1.5” notch running up the length ending in a 45 degree inward bevel, and it’s wall mounted on a vertical support with a mating bevel (basically a long and narrow French cleat – see sixth picture). Finished with sprayed lacquer.

The post and edging has more of a reddish tint than typical black walnut, so if you think it might be something else I’m very interested in getting opinions.

Looks good. I’m glad that mount worked. I think you have walnut. The first picture does look a little red but the unfinished last picture definitely looks like walnut.

Yeah, I agree. I think I was just thrown off because I was looking at it next to a stack of black walnut with absolutely no red-purple characteristics.
